Eminus Academy is an e-learning program that uses accessible technology in areas that do not otherwise have the infrastructure or opportunities to access formal education. Eminus provides professional training and resources focused on sustainable development, project management, community mapping and place-making. Upon completion of the courses offered, students are awarded a certificate that is provided. With technology becoming the way of the future, Eminus Academy bridges the gap of educational systems by offering quality skills to marginalized populations across the globe.
Eminus Academy has recently celebrated their success of their Urban Hackathon in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This two-day event organized 30 students from Ardhi University Faculty of Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering and Information Technology into interdisciplinary teams. These teams were challenged to create innovative solutions to urban issues such as informal settlements, transportation and waste management. The teams were guided and encouraged by in-person mentors via an e-learning platform with our partner Eliademy. On the final day, the teams pitched their solutions to potential investors and policy makers. The Hackathon’s success highlights Eminus’s goal to “apply elements of gamification and human centered design to explore and identify creative, informal transformative planning practices”. These values are also tailored by the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and motivate actions towards a more equitable and sustainable world.
Eminus partners with UN Habitat - the human settlement branch of the United Nations to work towards achieving some of the SDGs. Not only does UN Habitat authorize certificates for Eminus, but they also help achieve:
By aligning ourselves with a global organization’s goals, we believe we are participating in positive change for the future. This collaboration continues to strengthen as we have 3500 people involved with this project and have concluded Phase 1 with UN Habitat.
We believe that the future is dynamic and vibrant. Therefore, Eminus has some exciting upcoming opportunities. We are launching new courses early next year that address entrepreneurship, social development, climate change, proposal writing, marketing skills and project management. These new vocational courses are all aligned with the SDGs and will help expand Eminus Academy to be accessible to over 78 countries around the world.
This expansion includes a recent proposal for using Eminus for place-making training in the Bidi Bidi refugee settlement in Northern Uganda. To make this happen, we are partnering with the Anhart Foundation, among other partners. Our goal is for youth living in informal settlements to have the opportunity to learn vocational skills and to provide training that will allow students to improve living conditions through sustainable practices and development. Two courses will be offered in early 2018 as part of a pilot project to introduce these online courses to the Bidi Bidi refugee settlement. The hope is that, with enough support, these courses and more will be offered on a continuous basis in the future.
While Eminus partners with incredible organizations, we also need you. Our new funding model is centered around paying it forward. With the purchase of one course, another student is able to attend Eminus Academy for free.
Are you passionate about the same issues we are? Are you interested in supporting Eminus or registering for one of our courses?

Eminus Academy is proud to partner with Mark Fuhrmann, founder of the Piece Prize initiative which seeks to promote peace in the world. Starting April 1, Mark will kayak from Oslo, Norway to Athens, Greece over the course of several weeks, visiting many cities which lie along the way. His mission, to disseminate the idea of peace to the people around him and to honour those who are actively trying to make a difference in their local communities.
His more than 5000 kilometre journey will be one of reciprocal learning, the sharing of ideas and concepts of peace, the building of a network of people all united to bring the concept to the public. On his journey, he will engage with local youth and students at various schools, bridging the gap between those who know about peace and those who are in the general public. In doing so, Mark will be adding more pieces to the puzzle that is peace, bringing the puzzle ever closer to completion. We are each of us capable of impacting peace in our world, whether by being kind to strangers, or by volunteering at non-profits--all of our actions make a difference.
Mark's historic journey is one of the most daring initiatives to promote kindness and social responsibility in the world. However, geography and sheer distance limits his trip to Europe, so we want to help. In partnership with the Piece Prize, Eminus Academy will offer a free course to everyone who wishes to participate, Paddle for Peace: an Introduction to Human Rights. Upon the completion of the course, you will be warded a complimentary Certificate of Completion recognizing your efforts spent learning about the complexities of human rights.
We hope that you choose to be part of Mark's journey by joining us on Eliademy.

Eminus Academy is proud to announce that our successful three year of pilot, we will be transitioning to offer an exciting interactive on-line professional program aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Each course is just $150. The program will also continue to offer subsidized courses to youth(18-35 year-olds) requiring subsidy and/or referral to us by UN Habitat. The academy started out as a means for urban youth to gain valuable skills such proposal and business plan writing, program evaluation, digital story telling and mapping. We are also expanding our applied theory courses beyond social enterprise and seed market to include a larger range of courses, all connected to Sustainable Development Goals or the UN Habitat III agenda. Please see our About page for more details related to obtaining a Certificate of Completion in Sustainable Development Management co-signed by University of Fraser Valley and UN Habitat.
We are announcing a pivotal expansion plan which will make Eminus Academy available to people in 78 different countries around the globe. From South Africa to Spain, we will offer courses which will be relevant to both students in the developing world and the developed world, creating stronger partnerships between nations. Each course will provide direct interaction with program professors and facilitators as well as allow you to engage with your program cohort.
We are also announcing a new way to focus our efforts, the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). The SDGs are a list of 17 goals for humanity to strive to achieve by the year 2030, including the elimination of poverty and hunger as well as reducing inequality and promote peace throughout the world. Our efforts will now impact 6 of the SDGs directly while indirectly impacting all of the 17 goals.
This expansion is something that the world has earned, especially with all the negativity in the world right now, notably the rise of terrorism. Our efforts will be financed by a new pricing structure which will be based on the number of courses taken and the eligibility of applicants for automatic scholarships, which will be awarded to those who are considered by Eminus to be requiring a little help.
At the same time, while we are working with you to create a more sustainable world we also plan to work with you to help source funding for your transformative applied projects. Courses are to be launched in March 2017. All proceeds of the the program are invested in your further learning and development.
Please also stay tuned for Eminus products, which will be available on the Eminus Store. All products sold will be fair-trade and 100% of the profits will be going towards the expansion of learning opportunities at Eminus Academy.
With this bold new expansion, we hope to change how young people learn collaboratively around the world. We invite you to be a part of it!
